It’s the mid 1960s and with a long tradition of Irish music in their blood, middle aged John Joe John Joe (Bernard Hill) and his traditional Celtic folk band are ready to defend their three year running championship at County Clare’s annual All-Ireland Traditional Music Competition. John Joe’s band has won the best ceili band competition at the prestigious annual Irish music festival three years running. This year, prodigal brother, Jimmy (Colm Meaney), returns home from Liverpool with his new band. The brothers do not want to see each other and do whatever they can to ensure the other does not make it to the festival….
