In the early 1970s, Rodriguez made two seminal albums which fell into the musical void. He soon returned to renovation and construction work. Meanwhile, unknown to Rodriguez, a bootleg recording found its way into apartheid South Africa. Over the next two decades in South Africa, his music became as big as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. His recordings became gold records. The film follows the story of two South African fans who set out to find out what really happened to their hero.
